Could you find out where the people on facebook got their pics from (even if it's another facebook user) and just keep tracing that way until you get some real info?
Also, have you tried going to modern art or photography museums and showing the pics to someone in the information centers?

art is a tough thing to track down, I am working on finding a the artist of a number of pieces using google. I did not find my answer but it worth a shot
