Does anyone really like those assorted chocolates that come in any box? I'm talkin about Russell Stover or Forrest Gump style here, you never know what your going to get. I like some of them but I would never buy a box for myself or any one else but they seem to be everywhere during the holidays. Is it just great marketing or do people really like all these crazy and sometimes disgusting flavors?

I like to receive the boxes, but really eating them..... not quite the experience I expect, eventhough I have to admit that every so often you will have a fantastic chocolate in one of those boxes.

I don't like chocolate that much but if I am going to have some or give some to my wife, I always go with Godiva.

Russell Stover's are cheap and nasty.

They're ok....I only buy them during the holiday season. The best are Laura Secord miniatures or pot of gold. I really DO NOT like Russell Stover. I love eating my chocolate plain, either milk chocolate or 65% cocoa dark. The dark chocolate is much better for your health, more anti-oxydants.

They can be good and bad. Yes, I would never buy one for myself, but if you are stuck buying a gift for someone you know nothing about, then a box of chocolates is the way to go. There are many flavors, so odds are that the person will like at least one of them.

Personally, I don't really care for them.
These combination boxes are the fail-safe gift for the person you really don't know well enough to pick just one type of candy for, or some more meaningful gift-- the marketing is brilliant, really, understanding the mediocrity of a significant percentage of all gifts given, to strangers or the person you really don't want to disappoint (as you assume there has to be ONE thing in the box they'll eat, and it's cheaper than most specialized things).
Not to sound cynically against chocolate or holiday celebrations, but that's the main market these products are being sold to.
