I'm a big fan of folk music, more specifically, songs with a story behind them. A few examples are....

American Pie - Don McLean is about the deaths of Buddy Holly, Richie Valens, and the Big Bopper in an air plane crash. Also to show the symbolism of a dying era...Elvis goes into the military, little Richard joins the church, and Jerry Lee Lewis is in a scandal... so music was "paused" for a bit.

This one is easy. Since I am a die hard romantic the song which makes me want to forget everything is -

You sang to me - Marc Anthony. I love the burst of music when the song starts and the way he takes the song...amazing.

Then it would be - Shania Twain - You're still the one. The one song I'd love to sing Mr. Right.

Thats it. But music as such, any day, any time, any mood. Just play it. :)

Relevant to me at present as the first verse is about as well as I could describe how I see the world from my perspective - 'On the path to humanity, I sit at the gate.' Not so much the second verse.

This just an incredible piece of music that invokes so many emotions. It's about the holocaust and both haunting and beautiful at the same time. It's not the full piece which is 27 minutes long, but it gives an impression

Tears in Heaven got to me the first time I heard it. Especially when I found out that Eric Clapton wrote it for his son who died. I would cry everytime I heard it when it first came out. I used to sing it to my son when he was a baby.
You've Got A Friend by James Taylor. I love that song because everyone needs to have a friend who will stand by them when they are needed the most.
I just love music because it is a powerful force. People use songs for so many different reasons. For love, healing, an outlet for frustration/anger, political statements, just for fun, etc. Music shapes our lives. Even if you're a person who does not like music, you know at least one song.

Hi. I love music so just about any song I like strikes a personal chord with me. Questions like "What is your favorite band?" or "What is your favorite song?" are really difficult to answer because you can't choose just ONE. However, you threw in the word "personal" and you can't get much more personal than a song with your name in it.

The Jerry Garcia Band/ Grateful Dead has a song called "Rubin and Cherise". The spelling is near accurate too, which is rare with my name. It's a love song with a twist and it has some really good lyrics. You can listen to a girl who covers the song with a ukelele on YouTube, check it out here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hneKHllJ450
