When I get my period I'm always sooooo tired! But only in the last 2-3 days. I work out regularly but being so tired I can't which peeves me off! Is it normal and is there a way to... wake up?
Its totaly normal to be tired on your period. Think about it, your bleeding constantly, which causes your body to use energy to expell that blood. What happens to people who loose alot of blood? They faint or pass out...Similar to women except we are constantly replenishing our carbs. A way to wake up would be to eat alot of protein, thats what My doctor suggested to me. Try lost of Trail Mix and chicken, that will help you a lot, and maybe take a short nap during the day to replenish your energy.
Of course you are tired your body is busy getting rid of the baby bed you are not going to use this month. But you have every thing you need to deal with this. That is what the premenstral hormones are for. Take this time to pamper yourself a lttle motrin a good book and some nice tea. Spike it if you like. No one gets to bug you right now. Send the kids on a play date tell your husband to show up only if he is droping you off icecream otherwise bite him. This is your time. If you have to work take some motrin and deal with it otherwise take care of yourself and give yourself a break No exercise till it is over. That can wait. You will be more energetic when it is over.
Gosh... I would suggest to eat more dark green & red veggies, It helps to build up the minerals in your body which are lost during that time. You also need more rest during that time because of you guessed it... loss of blood. Drink more fruit juice instead of drinks with caffeine (sodas, coffee & power drinks - stay away from them) in them. Cranberry juices are good because they also help to flush your system quicker. A multi-vitamin with minerals such as zinc & iron are good too. They are not a good as eating healthy but they help boost you during that blessed time of the month.
I'm not a doctor, but here's what I believe. Some women have heavier periods than others therefore some women will be more tired than others. When the body releases the unfertilized egg every month, hence the reason for a period, you lose extra nutrients and the body has to recoup them. While the body is recouping, I believe it is natural to be a little more tired than usual.
